29 July 2016 – International / Global Tiger Day – Our #WildlifeCrime graphic series illustrating ‘supply & demand’ – 5 #TigerWJC_Tiger_v2

Until very recently tigers existed across 13 countries in Asia, but they are now officially extinct in Cambodia. Overall their distribution and range has declined by as much of 70% over the last 30 years. There are now more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild. The persistent, illegal market in SE and East Asia for their bones (medicine & tiger bone wine), their skins, teeth and claws (decoration & jewelry) and their meat (considered a delicacy) continues to thrive despite their fragile status. Tigers are facing extinction due to loss of habitat, human-tiger conflict and poaching. Our #Investigations team encounters illegal tiger products on a daily basis.
