Award-Winning ‘Seizure’ Debuts 9 December

From Film Festival Circuit to YouTube

Seizure, a new documentary from the Wildlife Justice Commission, debuts 9 December on YouTube, following an award-winning run at film festivals around the world.

Produced by Wildlife Justice with support from the Dutch Postcode Lottery, Seizure goes undercover into the illicit world of wildlife trafficking. The 20-minute film, directed by investigator and filmmaker Matt Durrant, follows a Wildlife Justice investigation into the trafficking of pangolin scales—one of the world’s most prized wildlife products.

Spanning continents—from Australia to Asia and Africa—Seizure follows WJC’s investigators, analysts, and undercover operatives as they track and expose the criminal networks behind the illegal wildlife trade. Led by former police detective Steve Carmody, the film offers an inside look at the race to target high-level traffickers and disrupt transnational criminal networks.

Seizure premieres on the Wildlife Justice YouTube Channel after winning multiple awards at film festivals around the world, including Best Short Documentary at both the Activists Without Borders (UK) and Swedish International Film Festivals (Sweden). It also was recognised at the Nature Without Borders International Film Festival (USA), the Documentaries Without Borders International Film Festival (USA), the Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (Malaysia), and the Lookout Wild Film Festival (USA).

Seizure has drawn praise from leading voices in the fight against environmental crime. Patrick Alley, author of Terrible Humans, commended Seizure for providing “a fascinating and compelling glimpse into the courageous, dynamic and absolutely critical work of the undercover sleuths of the Wildlife Justice Commission as they tackle the fourth biggest branch of organised crime.”

The award-winning documentary was produced as part of Project Galvanise, an initiative funded by the Dutch Postcode Lottery to strengthen intelligence-led investigations into wildlife crime in Southeast Asia. In a high-stakes battle to save endangered species, Seizure follows a real-time case involving pangolin scale trafficking, bringing audiences closer to the realities of wildlife crime and the global response required to confront it.
