In December 2025, 192 States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) adopted Resolution 11/9 on Preventing and Combating Corruption as it relates to Crimes that Affect the Environment. Adopted by consensus, the resolution is the most comprehensive set of global anti-corruption commitments to date addressing corruption linked to crimes that affect the environment.
Recently, the Wildlife Justice Commission contributed to a crucial UN meeting on fighting crime, the 35th Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ).
As governments, policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and civil society organisations (CSOs) prepare to meet at the Thirty-Fifth Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) in Vienna next week , the Wildlife Justice Commission calls for greater attention to financial investigations.

The Wildlife Justice Commission brought real-world evidence and insights from its investigations directly to governments and decision-makers recently at the 20th Conference of the Parties (CoP20) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
This week, the Wildlife Justice Commission joined with thousands of people from around the world to shape the future of conservation, as a participant in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress (WCC), held from 9 to 15 October in Abu Dhabi. The Wildlife Justice Commission (WJC) took part in the Third United Nations Ocean Conference, held in Nice from 9 to 13 June 2025. With over 60 Heads of State and Government and 15,000 participants in attendance, the UN Ocean Conference served as a pivotal platform for the WJC to draw global attention to a critical yet often overlooked threat: the trafficking of endangered and vulnerable marine species.

The Wildlife Justice Commission (WJC) took part in the 34th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), held in Vienna from 19 to 23 May 2025. As the United Nations’ main body on crime and justice, the CCPCJ offers a key platform to advance the global fight against wildlife and environmental crime.
Environmental crimes like wildlife trafficking have a devastating impact on every nation with far-reaching impacts on people and the planet, threatening biodiversity, destabilising ecosystems, and undermining international security.
The Wildlife Justice Commission actively participated in the UNTOC COP to urge States to prioritise the fight against crimes that affect the environment, particularly wildlife crime, and to collaborate with civil society and other partners in effectively addressing these urgent issues.

As a parent, I often wonder about the world my children will inherit. Will they grow up marveling at the same incredible wildlife we have today, or will those species be lost forever? This question drives my work at the Wildlife Justice Commission, where we are dedicated to disrupting and dismantling transnational criminal networks that threaten our planet’s biodiversity. Imagining a future without tigers, rhinos, turtles, pangolins, sharks and many other species is devastating; we must act now to prevent their extinction.
The Wildlife Justice Commission was present at the 21st International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), the world’s largest anti-corruption forum that unites all sectors and movements to tackle the challenges that corruption poses to the global order, in Vilnius, Lithuania. Our aim in attending the conference was to raise awareness of the role of corruption in facilitating environmental crimes and to provide concrete recommendations to address these issues.

To shed light on the multifaceted challenges posed by illegal activities in our oceans, the Wildlife Justice Commission and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) co-organised a Satellite Event titled “From Surviving to Thriving: Combatting Crimes in the Fisheries Sector for Healthy and Resilient Oceans”, as part of the UN Ocean Decade Week.
The Wildlife Justice Commission is dedicated to advocating for solutions to address corruption. In pursuit of this objective, we participated in the 10th session of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) Conference of the States Parties (CoSP) in Atlanta last week.
The Wildlife Justice Commission is proud to be one of the 301 civil society organizations and experts from 99 countries across the globe signed an open letter urging the states that have ratified the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) to adopt a Resolution at the 10th UNCAC Conference of States Parties (CoSP 10) taking place next month in Atlanta, United States.
The Wildlife Justice Commission organised a hybrid event, focusing on promoting the effective use of the provisions under the UNTOC and UNCAC on joint investigations and special investigative techniques to address environmental crimes and the corruption that enables them, on the sidelines of the 32nd Session of the CCPCJ.
