Working to deter wildlife crime
Envisioning a world without wildlife crime because governments effectively enforce the law
The Wildlife Justice Commission works to disrupt and dismantle the criminal networks that profit from trafficking wildlife, timber, and fish. These criminal networks operate at scale, driving species toward extinction while posing serious risks to biodiversity, global security, and public health.
What We Do:
1. We conduct intelligence-led, law enforcement-oriented investigations that produce arrests, convictions, and seizures
- Disrupting the supply chain of ivory, rhino horn, and pangolin scales from Africa to Asia.
- Saving species from the illegal pet trade by investigating and dismantling the massive global trafficking of endangered primates, exotic birds, big cat cubs, and reptiles.
- Targeting the trafficking of big cat parts, with a close look into captive tiger breeding facilities and the trafficking of jaguar, lion, and tiger parts.
2. We bridge the intelligence gap
We support international law enforcement cooperation by developing intelligence on transnational criminal networks and sharing it with national law enforcement agencies, helping to build a cross-border intelligence picture.
3. We urge governments to act
Making the fight against global wildlife crime a priority –at every level– is crucial to save species from extinction and to curb threats to global public health and security. We provide governments with insights into wildlife crime dynamics to support timely and effective action, and we hold them accountable when responses fall short.
We also share our expertise and recommendations to influence policy at global and multilateral levels.
4. We build sustainable solutions: Training and mentoring
In many countries, inadequate technical and human capacity are major factors preventing effective law enforcement action on wildlife crime. We work to address this by strengthening the capabilities of law enforcement agencies across Asia and Africa.
Through tailored, intelligence-focused training, we support analysts and investigators while providing ongoing mentorship. Our approach helps build a skilled, sustainable pipeline of experts where they are needed the most.
